The past 12 months have been a busy time for Lauryn Bosstick, who hosts The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast with her husband, Michael Bosstick, and founded a beauty brand, also dubbed The Skinny Confidential.
In September, she expanded the brand into the body care category with a body sculpting device called Le Spoon. In addition, her company collaborated with canned cocktail brand Spritz Society in March and expanded to Nordstrom with select beauty tools in October. As for Bosstick’s 7-year-old podcast, it surpassed 200 million lifetime downloads.
The Skinny Confidential brand has introduced nine products, including a facial ice roller, a face oil, a shave cream and a facial razor. In addition, the 2-year-old brand has become synonymous with its fun and aesthetically distinct collaborations. To date, they’ve included a pink-doused humidifier with Canopy, cookie dough with Deux and brow products with Benefit Cosmetics.
Bosstick spoke with Glossy about her attraction to beauty tools and her future plans for her beauty brand.
The Skinny Confidential is perhaps best known for its beauty tools. What excites you most about the beauty tools space right now?
“The Skinny Confidential creates tools that are elevated, effective and stand the test of time, and we always want them to look cute on your vanity. Today’s skin-care lovers care about preventative beauty, and they look forward to taking time out of their days to practice self-care. That includes meditation, skin care, facial massage and scalp massage. They’re also into little hacks like mouth taping, mewing, hot/cold therapy and getting some morning sun. It’s exciting to create products that can enhance the community’s routines.”
What is your approach to collaborations?
“Our collaborations have always been very thoughtful and purposeful. It’s very important that I use the products myself, daily or frequently. For instance, the [supplements brand] Arrae x The Skinny Confidential Le Depuff product was a very organic, natural partnership. I had been using their de-bloat pills forever. Then the founders, Siff Haider and Nish Samantray, came on The Skinny Confidential [podcast], and the relationship just kept growing.
Our collaborations are well-researched, tried-and-true, and aligned with our brand mission and values. I turn down 90% of [inbound collab requests]; I only work with the crème de la crème of [companies]. That’s what a tastemaker should do: curate the best for their audience so they don’t have to do the heavy lifting of searching and researching.”
As The Skinny Confidential grows, what untapped opportunities are you interested in exploring?
“[I want to explore] random partnerships that you wouldn’t necessarily think of, but that make sense. I’m also [interested in] more disruptive products, interesting and dynamic podcasts, in-person events that are immersive, and unique ways to connect with our community.”
