This year’s Glossy Fashion Awards embody the power and influence of a new generation of consumers. While in previous years, the values of Gen Z were starting to become a clear throughline for fashion, they’ve now become table stakes.
As cohort members mature into influential shoppers with discerning tastes — not based purely on labels or style — brands that are heeding younger shoppers’ calls for sustainability, inclusivity and innovation are setting themselves up for long-term success. This year’s shortlist highlights brands that have shaken up industry standards by making moves with these values that will help them stand out today and set an example heading into the future.
In one example, Shapewear and clothing brand Skims are nominated for Best Brand Collaboration — a limited-edition capsule collection with Fendi — and for Fashion Brand of the Year. The focus continues: Creating products for every body by doubling down on partnerships that enable Shapewear and Skims to stretch fit and fabric innovation — such as becoming the official sleepwear and underwear outfitter for the women of Team USA at the Summer and Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
— and those that capture the attention of new audiences.
Another finalist is ThredUp, an online fashion resale platform in the running for Best Resale Company. In addition to providing a place for consumers to buy and sell secondhand items easily, the company is leading the way for other retailers and brands to embrace a more sustainable future for fashion by continuing to grow its Resale-as-a-Service (RaaS) offering. At the end of 2021, the company had officially launched resale programs for 28 clients — a list that includes Walmart and Madewell — using its proprietary operating platform, designed to overcome the challenges of the resale market.
Stay tuned for the reveal of this year’s winners. In the meantime, check out the full shortlist below.
